Essay "Having Faith"

"Having Faith" is winner of the Thomas Wilhelmus Award for Nonfiction:

"I like the descriptive accuracy and clarity of this piece as well as the 'attitude' it conveys. The author/narrator/persona is the kind of skeptical, intelligent and quick-witted person we can well admire--refreshing in a situation (a heart transplant hospital) where other writers would be either too grisly or too 'heartfelt'. Writers shouldn't have to add drama or style in order to be persuasive, just speak with what appears to be their normal, honest (and in this case unsparing) voice."

WINNER, 2014 Promise Award from The Sustainable Arts Foundation

"Terrance Flynn's terrific memoir-in-progress, Dying To Meet You, tells the story of how Flynn received a heart transplant shortly after he and his partner became fathers via traditional surrogacy. It's a dramatic story, told with an understated tone and dry humor that make us eager to read the finished book."
